Spanish writer Irene Vallejo, author of the international bestseller El infinito en un junco (published in French as L'Infini dans un roseau), visited Morocco for the first time as a guest of honor at the 2026 Salon International de l'Édition et du Livre (SIEL) in Rabat. The fair, which ran from May 7 to 17, 2026, brought together publishers and authors from around the world.
During her appearance, Vallejo expressed deep emotion at discovering Rabat, calling it 'a city of light and books.' She noted that her work, which explores the history of books and reading, has been translated into more than 40 languages, including Arabic. The Moroccan public gave her a warm welcome, with long queues for book signings.
Vallejo's presence at SIEL 2026 highlights the growing cultural exchange between Spain and Morocco. The author participated in a panel discussion on the role of literature in building bridges between cultures, alongside Moroccan and other international writers.
