Iran's foreign ministry stated on Saturday that there is no date set for further talks with the United States regarding regional tensions and ceasefire efforts. Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said discussions would not proceed until a "framework" for the negotiations is agreed upon by both sides.
The statement comes amid ongoing regional instability. Recent months have seen a significant escalation in hostilities, including direct military exchanges between Iran and Israel in April 2024, which raised fears of a broader conflict.
International efforts, led by mediators including Oman, have attempted to facilitate indirect dialogue between Washington and Tehran. The core issues reportedly involve Iran's nuclear program and its activities in the region, as well as the lifting of US sanctions.
Analysts note that the lack of a scheduled date for talks indicates a continued deadlock. The US State Department has consistently stated its openness to diplomacy but insists it will continue to counter what it calls Iran's "destabilizing" actions.
