Ingredion Incorporated, a global ingredient solutions company, has announced the acquisition of Benicaros, a prebiotic dietary fiber from NutriLeads. The deal, finalized in early June 2026, includes the Benicaros brand and related intellectual property. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Benicaros is derived from upcycled carrot pomace, a byproduct of carrot juice production. It is a rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I) type pectic polysaccharide that has been shown to support gut health by selectively stimulating beneficial gut bacteria. The ingredient is marketed as a clean-label, non-GMO, and allergen-free fiber.
Ingredion plans to integrate Benicaros into its portfolio of specialty ingredients, targeting applications in food, beverage, and supplement products. The acquisition aligns with the company's strategy to expand its health and wellness offerings and meet growing consumer demand for sustainable, upcycled ingredients.
NutriLeads, based in the Netherlands, will continue to operate as a separate entity, focusing on its other product lines and research. The company's CEO noted that the sale allows NutriLeads to concentrate on developing new innovations in the gut health space.
