IndiGo, India's largest airline, and CFM International have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for up to 1,080 LEAP-1A engines, according to a statement from CFM on July 19, 2026. The agreement, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, includes 720 firm orders and 360 options, covering engines for IndiGo's future Airbus A320neo family aircraft.
The deal, if finalized, would be one of the largest engine orders in aviation history. CFM stated that the engines are valued at approximately $20 billion at list prices, though discounts are typical in such agreements. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027 and run through the next decade.
IndiGo, which operates over 300 aircraft, has been expanding rapidly in the Indian domestic and international markets. The airline's CEO, Pieter Elbers, said the MOU supports IndiGo's growth plans and fleet modernization. CFM's LEAP-1A engine is known for fuel efficiency and lower emissions, aligning with industry sustainability goals.
The MOU is subject to final contract negotiations and regulatory approvals. CFM is a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines.
