Indian state-owned aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is reportedly in discussions to establish a major industrial complex in Morocco. According to media reports, the facility would be located near the Ben Guerir Air Base.

The proposed project's initial phase would focus on maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for F-16 fighter jets. Morocco operates a fleet of F-16s, and the facility would aim to serve regional needs.

A potential second phase of the project could involve the licensed production of HAL's Tejas light combat aircraft. Reports suggest discussions include plans for assembling 58 Tejas jets in Morocco, which would mark a significant expansion of India's defense export and manufacturing partnerships in Africa.

While the project has been widely reported in Indian and Moroccan media, specific contractual agreements or a confirmed start date for construction had not been officially announced by the governments of India or Morocco as of early April 2026. The reported timeline aimed for the facility to be operational by 2027.
