An Indian-origin man, Abhishek Vijaykumar, pleaded guilty in a federal court in New Jersey to accessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) involving a prepubescent minor, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Court documents revealed that Vijaykumar, a resident of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, used an online messaging application to access and view CSAM. The investigation was conducted by the FBI and local law enforcement.
Vijaykumar faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for a later date, as per the DOJ statement.
The case is part of the Department of Justice's ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation, with the agency urging the public to report suspected incidents to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
