India participated in a virtual meeting on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, chaired by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Thursday, April 3, 2026. The meeting included representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The United States was not listed as a participant in the session.

During the discussions, Indian officials stressed the critical importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and unimpeded lawful transit through the strategic waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital chokepoint for global oil shipments, with about a fifth of the world's oil passing through it.

The UK-led initiative aims to coordinate international efforts to address recent maritime security challenges in the region. The meeting reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain stability and secure commercial shipping lanes amid regional tensions.
