On Saturday, Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan's imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, alleged that her brother was "repeatedly tortured" in jail. She spoke a day after Khan was taken to a high-security prison following a court appearance in Islamabad.
Khan, who has been in custody since August 2023 on multiple charges, including corruption and inciting violence, has consistently denied all allegations. His legal team has filed petitions for his release, citing health concerns and lack of evidence.
The Pakistani government has not yet responded to the torture allegations. Human rights organizations have previously raised concerns about prison conditions and treatment of political prisoners in Pakistan.
Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has called for his immediate release, claiming the cases are politically motivated. The government denies this, stating that Khan is being treated according to the law.
