The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed to a phased reform roadmap for a new program with Bangladesh, according to Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed (Khosru). The announcement was made on July 13, 2026, following discussions between Bangladesh officials and an IMF delegation in Dhaka.
The roadmap outlines a series of reforms aimed at strengthening Bangladesh's economy, including measures to enhance revenue collection, improve the financial sector, and promote sustainable growth. The IMF delegation, led by Chris Papageorgiou, is currently in Dhaka for the Article IV consultation and discussions on a potential new program.
Dr. Ahmed stated that the reforms will be implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on fiscal consolidation and governance improvements. The exact timeline and details of the program are still under negotiation, but both sides expressed optimism about reaching a final agreement soon.
