A humpback whale, affectionately named Timmy by rescuers, has been successfully freed after being stranded for weeks in the North Sea. The rescue operation, which involved multiple organizations, concluded on May 2, 2026, according to reports from the Dutch marine mammal rescue group SOS Dolfijn.
The whale was first spotted in distress near the Dutch coast in mid-April 2026. It had become entangled in fishing nets and was unable to free itself, leading to concerns about its health and survival.
