Yemen's Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran, stated on Friday that they launched a missile attack targeting Israel. The group's military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, announced the operation, claiming it was in solidarity with Palestinians and a response to the conflict in Gaza.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that on Friday, March 27, 2026, its air defense systems successfully intercepted a surface-to-surface missile over the Red Sea area before it entered Israeli airspace. The IDF stated the launch was identified and tracked, and no injuries or damage were reported.

The Houthis have launched numerous missiles and drones toward Israel since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, with most being intercepted by Israeli and allied defenses. The group controls large parts of Yemen and has disrupted shipping in the Red Sea, citing support for Palestinians.

International efforts to de-escalate regional tensions continue, with the United States and other nations maintaining a military presence in the region to counter such threats. The latest incident underscores the ongoing spillover of the Gaza conflict across the Middle East.
