Hong Kong actor and film producer Raymond Wong Pak Ming, 80, has been sentenced to five months' imprisonment and fined HK$99,720 (approximately RM52,000) for insider trading, according to court documents verified on June 10, 2026. The case involved trading in shares of a company linked to his younger sister.
The Eastern Magistrates' Courts handed down the sentence after Wong was convicted of insider dealing. The offence relates to transactions conducted in 2021, where Wong used non-public information to trade shares of a listed company, resulting in illegal profits.
Wong, best known for his roles in Hong Kong cinema and as a producer of numerous films, had pleaded not guilty but was found guilty by the court. The judge noted the seriousness of the offence, which undermines market integrity, but also considered Wong's age and lack of prior criminal record.
The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) welcomed the verdict, stating it sends a strong deterrent message. Wong's legal team indicated they are considering an appeal. The case has drawn significant media attention due to Wong's celebrity status in Hong Kong and across Asia.
