Hervé Renard has been appointed as the new head coach of the Tunisia national football team, replacing Alain Giresse, who was dismissed after a 3-0 loss to England in the team's opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 13, 2026. The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the change on June 15, 2026.
Renard, 57, is a seasoned coach in African football, having won the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia in 2012 and with Ivory Coast in 2015. He previously coached the Saudi Arabia national team at the 2022 World Cup, where they defeated eventual champions Argentina.
In his first press conference, Renard stated, "On fera de notre mieux" (We will do our best), emphasizing his commitment to improving the team's performance. Tunisia faces Australia in their next Group D match on June 18, 2026.
The coaching change comes amid criticism of Giresse's tactics and the team's lackluster display against England. Renard's experience in high-pressure tournaments is seen as a key asset for the Carthage Eagles.
