A fresh westerly weather system has triggered significant rainfall, hail, and snowfall across northern and northwestern regions of Pakistan. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecast the activity, which began affecting areas including Swat, Malakand, Abbottabad, and Mansehra.
The precipitation, particularly heavy snowfall in mountainous regions, has led to the closure of several key roads and disrupted daily life. Local authorities have reported mobilizing emergency services to clear blocked routes and assist affected communities. The PMD has advised tourists and travelers to exercise caution due to hazardous conditions on highways.
While the rains are beneficial for water reservoirs and the ongoing wheat crop, they have caused localized incidents of urban flooding in low-lying areas. Meteorological officials indicate the westerly wave is likely to persist, bringing more wet weather to parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir in the coming days.
