Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) issued a heatwave alert on Saturday, June 27, 2026, warning of high temperatures in several provinces across the country. The alert, which is in effect from Sunday, June 28, to Tuesday, June 30, 2026, forecasts maximum temperatures ranging from 40°C to 44°C in affected areas.
The provinces under the orange-level alert include: Aousserd, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Es-Semara, Laayoune, Oued Ed-Dahab, Smara, Tarfaya, and Tata. The DGM advises residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, such as staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
In contrast, other regions of the Kingdom are expected to experience thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, particularly in the High Atlas, Middle Atlas, and eastern areas. The DGM has also issued a yellow alert for these regions, warning of potential flash floods and hail.
