Contrary to earlier rumors, the HBO Max series 'Hacks' concluded after three seasons, not five. The final episode, which aired in May 2023, shows legendary comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) retiring from stand-up comedy and passing the torch to her young writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder).
In the finale, Deborah decides to end her Las Vegas residency and focus on mentoring Ava, who goes on to write for a late-night show. The twist is that Deborah, after a career spanning decades, chooses to leave the stage on her own terms, surprising fans who expected a more dramatic exit.
