The Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC) Electric Department has been awarded the American Public Power Association's (APPA) Diamond Level Safety Award, recognizing outstanding safety practices and performance in the public power industry.
The award, which is the highest level of APPA's Safety Awards program, honors utilities that achieve a safety incident rate in the top 25% of all public power utilities. GUC's Electric Department demonstrated exceptional commitment to workplace safety, with a low incidence of lost-time injuries and a strong safety culture.
APPA's Safety Awards are based on data from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and evaluate utilities on their total recordable incident rate and days away, restricted, or transferred (DART) rate. The Diamond Level is the most prestigious category, requiring utilities to maintain a DART rate of zero for at least one year.
GUC officials expressed pride in the achievement, emphasizing the dedication of employees to maintaining a safe work environment. The award reflects the utility's ongoing investment in safety training and equipment.
