At Google I/O 2026, held on May 20-21, the company announced several major updates to its core products. The event, which took place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, featured a keynote by CEO Sundar Pichai.
One of the biggest announcements was 'Omni,' a new AI model designed to integrate across Google services. According to Google, Omni can process text, images, and audio simultaneously, enabling more natural interactions with Assistant and Search.
Google also introduced 'Pics,' a standalone photo editing app that uses AI to enhance images. The app includes features like automatic object removal and style transfer, and is available for Android and iOS starting today.
Search received a significant overhaul with the expansion of AI Overviews, which now appear for more complex queries. Google said the feature, which summarizes search results using generative AI, is now rolling out globally in over 100 languages.
Other announcements included updates to Google Maps with immersive view for more cities, and new developer tools for Android 17, which focuses on AI integration and privacy improvements.
