The Ghana AIDS Commission has emphasized that condom use is a vital part of Ghana’s HIV prevention strategy, describing it as a low-cost and effective tool for reducing infections and preventing unintended pregnancies.
In a public statement, the Commission highlighted that consistent and correct condom use can significantly lower the risk of HIV transmission. The statement also noted that condoms are widely available and accessible across the country.
This reaffirmation comes as part of ongoing efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in Ghana, where the prevalence rate among adults (15-49 years) was estimated at 1.7% in 2024, according to UNAIDS data. The Commission continues to promote comprehensive prevention methods, including voluntary medical male circumcision and antiretroviral therapy.
