Medcare Hospital Al Safa in Dubai has successfully treated a 72-year-old resident with an enlarged prostate, nine times its normal size, using advanced robotic waterjet therapy known as Aquablation. The procedure, performed in June 2026, highlights the growing role of robotic surgery in the UAE.
Aquablation uses a robotic system to deliver a high-velocity waterjet, guided by real-time ultrasound imaging, to precisely remove prostate tissue. This minimally invasive approach reduces risks of side effects like incontinence and erectile dysfunction compared to traditional surgery.
Dr. Yasser El-Husseini, a consultant urologist at Medcare Hospital, stated that the patient had severe symptoms and was not a candidate for conventional surgery due to the gland's size. The procedure was completed in under an hour, and the patient was discharged the next day.
Medcare Hospital Al Safa is part of the Aster DM Healthcare group, which has been expanding its robotic and AI technology portfolio. The hospital has performed over 50 Aquablation procedures since introducing the technology in 2023.
