Godwin, 27, performed a clean Yurchenko double twist to score 13.966, edging out Canada's Emma Spence (13.833) for silver and England's Ruby Stacey (13.733) for bronze. The victory was emotional for Godwin, who had considered retiring after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In Birmingham 2022, Godwin helped Australia win silver in the team event and placed fourth on floor exercise. She also competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she finished 12th in the all-around final.
Godwin's Glasgow gold is Australia's first women's gymnastics gold at the Commonwealth Games since 2018. She has confirmed she will continue training for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
