Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Bimalendra Nidhi, has stated that technical issues plaguing the new mandatory QR code system for fuel distribution will be resolved by Friday, March 20, 2026. The system, implemented to curb the illegal sale and smuggling of petroleum products, has faced operational difficulties since its launch.

Minister Nidhi addressed the issue during a meeting of the Industry, Commerce, Labour, and Consumer Welfare Committee in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, March 18. He acknowledged public inconvenience and assured that the government and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) are working to fix the problems.

The QR code system requires fuel pumps to scan a code on purchase receipts to dispense petrol and diesel. The minister emphasized that the system is crucial for supply management and preventing revenue leakage, despite the initial technical setbacks.
