According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, a Florida dog owner allegedly faked a heart attack while being arrested after her two pit bulls viciously mauled a woman to death. The incident occurred on May 28, 2026, in Deltona, Florida.
The victim, identified as 54-year-old Carol Ann Smith, was attacked in her front yard while her husband watched helplessly. The dogs, owned by 38-year-old Jennifer Lee, escaped from a nearby property and attacked Smith, causing fatal injuries.
When deputies arrived to arrest Lee on charges of manslaughter and harboring dangerous dogs, she reportedly collapsed and claimed she was having a heart attack. Paramedics evaluated her at the scene and determined she was not experiencing a medical emergency. She was then taken into custody.
Lee is being held at the Volusia County Jail on a $100,000 bond. The dogs were seized by animal control and are being held pending a court order for euthanasia.
