Rescue efforts in Laos have achieved a breakthrough, with the first of five trapped villagers safely evacuated from a flooded cave. The operation, which involved Thai rescue teams, focused on pumping out monsoon floodwaters that had blocked the cave's entrance.
Thai rescue team member Kengkard Bonggawong confirmed the development in a Facebook post, stating, 'One person has got out of the cave safely.' He added that the team would assess the remaining four individuals before proceeding with further rescues.
The incident occurred in a cave in northern Laos, where the group had been trapped since heavy rains caused flash flooding. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the rescued villager or the others still inside.
Rescue teams continue to work around the clock to extract the remaining villagers, with water pumps operating to lower the water level inside the cave. The operation is being closely monitored by local officials and international partners.
