The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has suspended director Ranjith from its Directors Union and Writers Union following a complaint of attempted sexual assault. The action was taken after a woman, a fellow film professional, filed a police complaint against him in late March 2026.
FEFKA General Secretary B. Unnikrishnan confirmed the suspension, stating the decision was made by the federation's executive committee. He noted that while no complaint had been formally filed with FEFKA's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), the federation took the police case seriously and decided to suspend Ranjith's membership pending the investigation's outcome.
Director Ranjith, known for films like 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint' and 'Indian Rupee', has publicly denied the allegations, claiming innocence. The Kerala police are currently investigating the complaint. The case has sparked significant discussion within the Malayalam film industry about accountability and safety.
