Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) risks political irrelevance if the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, fails to secure the party's presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections. Fayose made these remarks in a recent interview, suggesting that Obi's popularity and political capital are crucial for the ADC's future relevance.

Peter Obi, who ran as the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election, has not officially declared his candidacy or party affiliation for the 2027 race. His 2023 campaign, however, garnered significant support, particularly among youth voters.

The ADC is one of several political parties in Nigeria. Fayose's comments highlight the ongoing speculation about potential political realignments and candidate movements ahead of the 2027 elections. As of late March 2026, no major party has formally selected its presidential candidate for the upcoming polls.
