The family of the late James Nderitu Gachagua, brother to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has publicly appealed to President William Ruto to intervene in a long-running legal dispute over the administration of his estate. The family members have cited prolonged suffering and frustration with the court process.

James Nderitu Gachagua, a prominent businessman and former Member of Parliament for Ndaragwa, passed away in February 2017. His death triggered a complex succession battle among his heirs over a multi-billion shilling estate comprising properties and businesses.

In their appeal, the family has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace and handling of the succession case in the courts. They argue that the protracted litigation has caused significant distress and hindered the family from moving forward.

The public plea to the head of state underscores the depth of the family's frustration with the judicial process. As of March 2026, the succession case remains unresolved in the Kenyan courts, nearly a decade after Gachagua's death.
