The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) of the Democratic Republic of Congo has raised alarm over the deteriorating human rights situation and ongoing crisis in the eastern part of the country. In a briefing to diplomats on June 12, 2026, the CNDH highlighted increased violations including summary executions, sexual violence, and forced displacement.
According to verified reports, the security situation in North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri provinces remains volatile, with armed groups continuing to operate despite government efforts. The CNDH noted that over 6 million people are internally displaced, and access to humanitarian aid is severely restricted.
The commission called on the international community to pressure all parties to respect international humanitarian law and to support efforts for a peaceful resolution. The CNDH also urged the Congolese government to strengthen the rule of law and ensure accountability for perpetrators of abuses.
