An inquest into the death of Michael Donohoe has heard that a Stormont department should have considered the risks associated with accessing a culvert. The hearing, which took place in Belfast, examined the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Evidence presented to the coroner indicated that the Department for Infrastructure failed to carry out a proper risk assessment for the culvert, which was located in a rural area. The inquest heard that access to the site posed significant dangers that were not adequately addressed.
Michael Donohoe died after becoming trapped in the culvert. The family's legal representative argued that the department had a duty of care to ensure the safety of the structure. The coroner is expected to deliver a verdict later this week.
