On July 18, 2026, the Senegalese government, in partnership with UNICEF, launched a national awareness campaign aimed at protecting children from all forms of violence. The initiative, titled 'SaleΜ: Lancement dβune campagne nationale de sensibilisation aΜ la protection des enfants contre la violence,' seeks to educate communities and promote reporting mechanisms.
The campaign includes public service announcements, school-based workshops, and community dialogues. According to UNICEF Senegal, the effort targets reducing physical and emotional abuse, which affects an estimated 80% of children in the country according to recent surveys.
Government officials emphasized the importance of legal frameworks, referencing the 2023 Child Protection Code. The campaign will run for six months across all 14 regions, with hotline numbers for reporting abuse.
