Karine and Élodie, two residents of Châteaubriant, recently returned from competing in the 2025 Rallye des Gazelles, an all-female off-road navigation rally held in Morocco. The event, known for its focus on navigation skills rather than speed, took place from March 15 to 30, 2025, covering over 1,500 kilometers of desert terrain.
The duo, driving a modified 4x4, completed the rally without major incidents. They emphasized the importance of teamwork and preparation, having trained for months prior to the event. 'We relied on maps and a compass, not GPS, which made it a true test of orientation,' Karine said in a local interview.
Élodie noted the camaraderie among participants and the stunning landscapes of the Moroccan desert. 'It was challenging but unforgettable. We met incredible women from around the world,' she added. The pair finished in the top half of the standings, a respectable result for first-time participants.
The Rallye des Gazelles, founded in 1990, is known for its eco-friendly approach, with strict rules against leaving waste in the desert. Karine and Élodie plan to participate again in 2026, aiming to improve their ranking.
