Contrary to some reports, Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not hesitant about offering Michael Carrick the permanent managerial role because Carrick is not in the running for the position. The club has not considered Carrick for the permanent job, as he left his role as first-team coach in 2021 and has since managed Middlesbrough.
Current interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is leading the team while the club searches for a permanent successor to Erik ten Hag, who was sacked in October 2025. United have been linked with several candidates, including Sporting CP's Ruben Amorim, but no decision has been made as of April 24, 2026.
Carrick, who had a brief stint as caretaker manager in 2021, is now focused on his role at Middlesbrough in the Championship. There is no indication that he is being considered for a return to Old Trafford in a managerial capacity.
