The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Alex Tuch from the Buffalo Sabres in a sign-and-trade deal, according to multiple reports. As part of the transaction, Tuch has signed a seven-year contract extension with the Capitals.
Tuch, 30, was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild in the first round (18th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. He has recorded 148 goals and 203 assists for 351 points in 511 career NHL games with the Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, and Sabres.
The Sabres will receive a package of players and draft picks in return, though specific details of the trade have not been officially confirmed. The deal is expected to be finalized once the NHL's free agency period opens on July 1.
Tuch is expected to provide veteran scoring depth and physical play to the Capitals' forward group as they look to remain competitive in the Metropolitan Division.
