Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Frémaux addressed Hollywood's lack of major world premieres at the 2026 festival during Monday's kickoff press conference. He noted that while some studios are absent, the festival remains focused on showcasing diverse cinema from around the world.
Frémaux mentioned that Universal's 'Fast & Furious' franchise is not part of this year's lineup, contrary to earlier speculation. He emphasized that the festival's selection committee prioritizes artistic merit over commercial considerations.
The 2026 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 13 to May 24. Frémaux confirmed that several high-profile international films will premiere, including works from emerging directors and established auteurs from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
