Capital Brewing co-founder Laurence Kain says manufacturing and production lines are not the first things people associate with Canberra, but the city's economic 'pie' is expanding beyond public administration. 'Brewing isn't an industry that existed in Canberra on any scale even 10 years ago,' Kain said, noting the sector's growth.
According to a 2025 report from the ACT Government, the territory's economy is diversifying, with sectors like advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and technology growing. The brewing industry, including Capital Brewing, has contributed to this shift, creating jobs and attracting tourism.
Kain emphasized that Canberra is becoming more than a city of public servants, with local businesses driving innovation. 'We're seeing more people starting ventures in manufacturing, which is great for the local economy,' he added.
