A Canadian man accused of selling a lethal chemical online to people who took their own lives has pleaded guilty to aiding suicide. Kenneth Law, 60, entered the plea on May 29, 2026, in a Toronto court, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Law operated several websites selling sodium nitrite, a substance commonly used as a food preservative but lethal in high doses. Police say he shipped the chemical to individuals in multiple countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Authorities believe he may have sent packages to over 1,200 people worldwide.
The charges stem from the deaths of 14 people in Ontario who ingested the substance. Law was arrested in May 2023 and initially faced 14 counts of first-degree murder, but those charges were later reduced to aiding suicide. The guilty plea covers all 14 counts.
Prosecutors said Law knew the chemical would be used for suicide and continued to sell it despite warnings. His defense lawyer argued that Law was not directly responsible for the deaths but acknowledged the harm caused. Sentencing is scheduled for later this year.
