VANCOUVER – The Canadian men's national soccer team is working to secure home advantage for potential knockout stage matches in the FIFA World Cup, following a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening group game in Toronto on June 23, 2026.
According to Canada Soccer officials, the team is in discussions with FIFA to host a knockout round match at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, should Canada advance from Group F. The tournament, co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, has Canada playing all its group stage matches on home soil.
Canada's next group match is scheduled against Morocco on June 27 in Vancouver, followed by a match against Portugal on July 1 in Edmonton. A win or draw in these games could secure Canada's place in the round of 16, where they would potentially face a team from Group E.
The Canadian team has not advanced past the group stage in a World Cup since 1986, when they lost all three matches. The current squad, led by coach John Herdman, is aiming to make history by reaching the knockout rounds for the first time.
