The match, held on February 2, 2025, ended in controversy after Algeria claimed a 2-1 victory, but Morocco filed an appeal alleging irregularities in officiating and match conditions. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) initially upheld the result, prompting Morocco to take the case to CAS.
