A significant atmospheric river continues to bring heavy rainfall to British Columbia's South Coast, with Environment and Climate Change Canada maintaining rainfall warnings for several regions as of March 19, 2026. The weather system is expected to persist, with the heaviest precipitation forecast for the North Shore Mountains, Howe Sound, and the Fraser Valley.

"We've seen some tremendous amounts of rain up on portions of the Central Coast, up in the river's inlet area," said Brian Proctor, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, in a statement. The agency has warned of potential flooding in low-lying areas and possible washouts near rivers and streams due to the intense rainfall.

The River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the South Coast, including Vancouver Island. Officials are urging residents to avoid riverbanks and shorelines, which may be unstable. The prolonged rain increases the risk of landslides and localized flooding.

Emergency management officials are monitoring the situation closely. The public is advised to stay informed through official alerts and to prepare for possible travel disruptions and power outages caused by the severe weather conditions.
