LAHORE: Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi has said that elements seeking to create unrest and instability in the country are acting against national interests, stressing that dialogue remained the only viable way to resolve political differences.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore on June 8, 2026, Ashrafi warned against the politics of violence, stating that it undermines the country's stability and progress. He called on all political parties to prioritize national unity over personal or group interests.
Ashrafi emphasized that the PUC supports peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and urged the government and opposition to engage in constructive talks. He also condemned any form of extremism or terrorism, reiterating that such actions are un-Islamic and harmful to society.
The PUC chairman's remarks come amid ongoing political tensions in Pakistan, with calls for dialogue from various religious and civil society leaders. Ashrafi's statement aligns with his consistent advocacy for interfaith harmony and non-violence.
