MANILA, Philippines — Southeast Asian leaders are meeting in Cebu City from May 6 to 8, 2026, for the 48th ASEAN Summit. The discussions are expected to center on energy security, food security, and the safety of ASEAN nationals amid heightened global tensions, according to official statements from the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.
The summit brings together the 11 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste, which joined as an observer in 2022 and is expected to be discussed for full membership.
Key agenda items include strengthening regional cooperation on renewable energy transition, ensuring stable food supply chains, and protecting migrant workers in conflict zones. The leaders are also expected to address the situation in Myanmar, though no breakthrough is anticipated.
The summit is being held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, with enhanced security measures in place. This is the first in-person ASEAN summit hosted by the Philippines since 2017.
