VIENTIANE — Delegates from ASEAN member states and China reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties in science, technology and innovation at the 22nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation (AMMSTI-22) held in Vientiane, Laos, on June 28, 2026.
The meeting, chaired by Lao Minister of Technology and Communications Boviengkham Vongdara, focused on enhancing regional collaboration in research, digital transformation, and sustainable development. Participants discussed joint initiatives to promote technology transfer and innovation ecosystems across Southeast Asia.
Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang emphasized the importance of open innovation and mutual benefits, highlighting China's commitment to supporting ASEAN's science and technology goals through shared projects and capacity-building programs.
The AMMSTI-22 concluded with a joint statement outlining priority areas for cooperation, including artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and renewable energy technologies. The next meeting is scheduled for 2027 in Myanmar.
