NASA has confirmed that the crew of the upcoming Artemis II mission successfully addressed a malfunction in the toilet system aboard the Orion spacecraft. The issue was identified and resolved during a recent integrated ground test, which simulates mission conditions to prepare the crew and ground teams.

The toilet, formally called the Universal Waste Management System (UWMS), experienced a valve-related problem. Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen worked with ground engineers to troubleshoot and fix the issue. NASA stated the repair ensures the system's functionality for the mission's planned duration.

Artemis II, scheduled for a launch no earlier than September 2025, will carry these four astronauts on a journey around the Moon and back to Earth. Reliable sanitation systems are critical for crew health and mission success during the approximately 10-day flight.
