According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 3.4% year-on-year in April 2026. Goods were 3.8% more expensive, while services increased by 2.8% compared to April 2025. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.8% from March 2026.
Lauri Veski, the consumer price statistics service manager at Statistics Estonia, attributed the annual increase primarily to higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as housing-related costs. He noted that rising fuel prices, linked to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, also contributed to the overall inflation figure.
The data shows that the largest contributors to the annual price increase were food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose by 5.2%, and housing, which increased by 4.1%. Transport costs were up 3.9%, driven by higher fuel prices.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items like food and energy, stood at 2.9% year-on-year in April. This suggests that underlying price pressures remain moderate despite the headline figure.
Economists expect the Bank of Estonia to maintain its current monetary policy stance, as inflation remains above the European Central Bank's 2% target but shows signs of stabilization.
