Apple has prevented developer Kevin Gessner from updating his Mac application, AppGrid, on the App Store. The company cited section 2.5.7 of its App Store Review Guidelines, which states apps cannot "duplicate apps already in the App Store," specifically referencing the system's built-in Launchpad feature.
AppGrid is a third-party launcher that organizes applications into a customizable grid, similar to the Launchpad feature Apple introduced with macOS Lion. In a public post, Gessner shared Apple's rejection notice, which argued AppGrid's core functionality was too similar to Launchpad, despite Launchpad being a system-level feature not distributed through the App Store itself.
The decision has sparked discussion among developers and users, with some viewing it as an overly broad interpretation of the guidelines against duplication. As of March 2026, the existing version of AppGrid remains available for download, but no future updates can be published unless the decision is reversed.
