Apple officially announced on Monday that its 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place from June 8 to June 12. The event is expected to be a landmark occasion, as it will feature Tim Cook's final keynote as CEO. Cook, who has led Apple since 2011, previously indicated he would step down by 2026, with reports suggesting a transition to a new CEO is imminent.
The conference will be held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, with a hybrid format allowing both in-person and virtual attendance. According to Apple's press release, the event will focus heavily on artificial intelligence, including updates to iOS, macOS, and other platforms. AI features are anticipated to be a central theme, building on the company's recent push into generative AI.
WWDC 2026 will also include developer sessions, labs, and the annual Apple Design Awards. The keynote on June 8 is expected to unveil major software updates, including iOS 20, macOS 16, and watchOS 11. Industry analysts predict that Cook's farewell address will highlight his legacy, including the launch of the iPhone X, Apple Watch, and the transition to Apple Silicon.
Apple has not yet confirmed Cook's successor, but speculation points to current COO Jeff Williams or senior vice president of hardware technologies Johny Srouji. The company has emphasized that the leadership transition will be smooth, with Cook remaining as chairman of the board.
