Antigua and Barbuda reaffirmed its support for Morocco's autonomy initiative for the Western Sahara region during a regional seminar of the UN Committee of 24 (C24) held in Managua, Nicaragua, this week. The representative of the Antigua and Barbuda delegation, Jerri-Anne Jeremy, stated that the initiative is in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
Jeremy emphasized that the autonomy plan represents a credible and serious solution to the long-standing dispute. She called on all parties to engage constructively in the UN-led political process to reach a mutually acceptable political solution.
The statement aligns with the growing international support for Morocco's position, which proposes broad autonomy for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty. The C24 seminar serves as a platform for member states and observers to discuss decolonization issues.
