Algerian security forces have seized a major shipment of illicit drugs in the southwestern region of Bechar, near the border with Morocco. According to official statements, the operation resulted in the confiscation of more than 1.1 tons (over 11 quintals) of cannabis resin.
The National Gendarmerie reported that the drugs were discovered in a sophisticated concealment within a vehicle attempting to cross into Algerian territory. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking networks operating across the region's borders.
Authorities stated the seized narcotics originated from Morocco. No further details about arrests or the specific date of the seizure were immediately provided in the initial reports. Such large-scale interceptions are frequent along Algeria's borders, reflecting the persistent challenge of drug smuggling in the area.
