KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 ā A 28-year-old administrative assistant at the Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang has been accused of defrauding at least 187 house officers out of more than RM47,000. The suspect, known only as 'Ms S', was arrested on Wednesday following reports from the victims.
According to police, the alleged scam involved the suspect soliciting payments from the house officers for what she claimed were administrative fees related to their compulsory service. The house officers, also known as housemen, are medical graduates undergoing mandatory training in public hospitals.
Klang Selatan district police chief ACP Shamsul Amar Ramli confirmed the arrest and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Initial investigations suggest the fraudulent activity had been ongoing for several months before being reported.
The incident has raised concerns about internal financial safeguards within public institutions. Hospital management has pledged full cooperation with the police investigation.
