Nigeria's Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologized to citizens over severe and prolonged power outages across the country. The minister made the apology during a press conference on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, attributing the crisis to gas supply constraints, vandalism of infrastructure, and outstanding debts within the sector.

Adelabu stated that the government is working to resolve the issues and promised a noticeable improvement in power supply within the next three to five days. He acknowledged the hardship caused by the blackouts, which have affected homes and businesses nationwide.

The minister outlined steps being taken, including engagements with gas suppliers and efforts to protect power infrastructure from vandalism. He also mentioned interventions to address the liquidity crisis affecting electricity generation companies.

The power grid has repeatedly collapsed in recent weeks, with generation falling below 3,000 megawatts against a national demand exceeding 20,000 megawatts. The government's promise of rapid improvement is being met with skepticism by many Nigerians accustomed to chronic electricity shortages.
